Reformation 500 Panel Discussion

PRESS RELEASE HOLY TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH November 11, 2017 The Reformation: 500 Years Later and Beyond Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lafayette, Indiana, will host a panel discussion and conversation around the topic: “The Reformation Church in Today’s World.” The event will take place on Saturday, November 11, 2017, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. It is part of the 500th Anniversary celebration of the Protestant Reformation. The dialogue will focus on the state of the Church after 500 years and what it might become. Four scholars will be part of the panel. They include Dr. Derek Nelson, Wabash College, Crawfordsville, IN; Dr. Brent Hege, Butler University, Indianapolis, IN; Dr. Rob Saler, Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis, IN; and the Rev. Dr. William Gafkjen, Bishop of the Indiana-Kentucky Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Towards the end of the panel discussion, the audience will be invited into the conversation. “The purpose of the panel discussion is not to rehash 500 year old history or even the theological differences between protestant churches and the Roman Catholic Church. Our purpose is to acknowledge and celebrate those things we have in common and our hope for the future. We are together in proclaiming God’s Living Word and the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” says Rev. Chancel Players: Wilde's "Picture of Dorian Gray"

Chancel Players present Oscar Wilde's story, The Picture of Dorian Gray, in a new a stage adaptation by John O'Connor and Merlin Holland (the only grandchild of Oscar Wilde). The First Baptist Church, 411 N 7th St, Lafayette, hosts the show: Friday and Saturday, October 27-28, and Friday, November 3, at 7:30 pm and on Saturday, November 4, at 2:30 p.m. Cost $10 for adults The young Dorian Gray becomes infatuated by a beautiful portrait of himself and makes a Faustian pact that the picture will grow old while he remains forever young. Wilde's novel and this adaptation examine themes of youth and decay, innocence and corruption, art and reality.
