Join us for a celebration of the Sculpture Garden and Nature Trail. Master Gardener and Purdue landscaper Brenda Carton, who designed and installed the garden with the aid of volunteers, will talk about the landscaping, erosion control, and ecological issues involved in the design of the garden.
Purdue Geologist Terry West will talk about the cemented terrace gravel formations at the bottom of the trail that was created by a series of glaciers.
Retired Purdue entomologist Tom (Bug Man) Turpin will discuss the role of insects in a healthy woods and their ecological impact everywhere. He’ll also bring some critters to share with guests.
Thirty native trees are identified along the trail and those of most importance will be discussed along with the identification of some invasive species that are a constant threat to native woods.
First Annual Greater Lafayette Mini Maker Faire
Tinkerers, makers, 3D printing enthusiasts, robot builders, cosplay experts and even a banana tattoo artistwill descend on Carnahan Hall in Lafayette on Saturday October 14th from 10 AM to 4 PM for Imagination Station’sFirst Annual Greater Lafayette Mini Maker Faire. Presented by Star City Broadcasting Group, home of GreaterLafayette’s newest TV stations, arts, science, technology will be highlighted through booths, main stage performances,and interactive workshops that will entertain and inspire people young and old. The $5 admission might be a steal.Maker Faire is the Greatest Show and Tell on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity andresourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. Given the proximity to Halloween and the Maker mindset,there will even be a Costume Contest. Attendees can expect to be mesmerized by the art of belly dancing on the mainstage and learn how to take costumes to the next level with a workshop by CosAwesome Studios. Science lovers willbe delighted by the robots, 3D-printing, and computers galore. This event was made possible by the generous supportof Star City Broadcasting Group. EXHIBIT: The Many Faces of Indiana Art
This is a juried exhibition designed to examine, challenge, educate, and enrich the viewer's definition of art. The exhibition features a wide range of works in many forms by over 20 Indiana artists. Paintings, glass, photography, woodcarving, metal working, jewelry, and textiles are just a few of the many art forms being showcased in the exhibition. Open Wed. - Sat. from 1-4 pm. Admission: $5 for adults; $3 for ages 17 and under; Free for Museum Members
