Celebración de Latinos in STEM

From 6:00PM to 7:30PM

Every child needs inspiration in order to succeed in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Sometimes this inspiration comes from role models she or he can relate to. This is why Imagination Station and Purdue University's Latino Cultural Center are teaming up to celebrate Latinos in STEM. This free event will be hosted at Imagination Station September 22nd from 6-7:30pm and is open to all members of the Greater Lafayette community. There will be activities for kids of all ages inspired by famous Latinx Scientists. A panel of local Latino and Latina STEM professionals, including Purdue faculty, students, and community members, will be there to talk about their experiences. There will even be free tacos (in limited but, delicious supply) and Imagination Station will be making its famous Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream. The Purdue University Latino Cultural Center are co-hosting the event, helping to inspire adults and children alike. “Representation is important and in intentionally selecting a diverse panel of Latinx in STEM, we hope to empower those who participate,” said Carina Olaru, Director of the Latino Cultural Center. To commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month, Imagination Station has gone bilingual, with signage in both English and Spanish. “We are excited to partner with folks in the local Latino community to celebrate the amazing contributions of Latin-Americans to science,” said Jazmin Berlanga Medina, Director of Educational Programs at Imagination Station. “This is also a wonderful opportunity for parents to learn how they can help their children succeed in STEM and beyond." This event wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of Del Real Auto Sales. Our other sponsors include Chase Bank, La Tapatia, and Jalisco Grocery. Come out and celebrate all the Latinos who have made an impact in STEM and our community.
