EXHIBIT: 100 CUPS - One Artist's Journey

From 1:00PM to 4:00PM

The Haan Mansion Museum presents a series of 100 wheel-thrown porcelain cups by Julia Livingston in an exhibition culminating her life’s work as a ceramic artist. Livingston began her exploration as a simple idea to create 100 cups in prolific succession, and it unfolded into a dramatic documentation of a life-affirming creative process. Each of the hundred cups is a separate unique work, and the “100 Cups” collection is itself an artwork that is a unity of the individual pieces forming a continuous flow. During the two years of the 100 Cups project, the cups evolved to express a changing internal landscape brought about by critical events in her life, notably, the death of her mother in Cup 84, and at Cup 94, titled “Splitting Apart”, the shock of her own life threatening illness. Cup 100, titled “End Point,” marked the end of the project, yet pointed to an unknown more. Along with the 100 Cups series, many of Livingston’s works from early to recent have been displayed at the Haan Mansion Museum, and many are part of the permanent collection.
